Awaken us!
We say we love You
Our lips move
But our hearts are so far from You
Once a week
We go to church
Just to sit comfortably
Are we even present?
Our hearts remain unmoved by You
How can we not be moved?
My God,
We live selfish lives
Yet we confess to know You
How can we be so blind?
Oh, God!
Wake us up!
It’s not about routine
But we’re so caught up
It’s about being in love
You are everything we need
Yet we don’t trust You
What foolishness!
Please stop us from running
Draw us into Your arms
Set us on fire
You died so we could live
You died!

The face I’ll find reflected in the mirror
Will give away the many years that have melted
Like candles flickering against the night sky
I’ll look inside my eyes and be reminded that I once was young and full of life
I’ll try to find the girl that’s hiding underneath the sculpted face
Those eyes will tell the story of a life
Full of dreams, joys, sorrows
Everything will be left behind
No going back
I only had one chance to live my life
What is it that I left behind?
How did my life impact the world I touched?
Did my hands leave the imprint of Christ?
Or did I live my life in selfish ways?
Who is it that I lived my life for?
How many people have I drawn towards the Light?
Have I done anything of eternal significance?
I truly hope I won’t be disappointed on that day!
I want to live my life for the one whose breath I breathe
And as I’ll close my eyes into eternal rest
My soul will be forever satisfied…
And only what I did for Christ remained

Battlefield

The darkness is thick
I can hardly breathe
I’m lost in the midst of dark shadows
Moving too fast for me to keep up
I’m in the midst of a battle
How was I not aware of this?
Blood is splattered everywhere
A few warriors are standing
Many are asleep
Blind to the war that’s going on around them
I look around in fear
Seems like time stopped
My breath is heavy
I take out my sword and begin fighting
Dark spirits are falling to the ground
Defeated and motionless
I scream and swing my sword with everything that I am
Fear is replaced by courage
I can feel Someone giving me strength
I’m awake
I will fight for my heart
I will stand strong
The battle is real.
Winter Melancholy

I feel the cold inside my bones
Depression fights to win my heart
I wait in silence
Will trees be bare forever?
Everything is so gray
It feels like I’ve been living through a long, dark night
When will the day break through?
The sky is lifeless
Flowers died beneath the frozen snow
I long for life and color
Yet it is death that overcomes my soul
Where did the birds go?
I miss their song
Only a few remained
The sun is hiding his face
How much longer?
When will this end!?
Days pass me by so fast
It’s all a blur
I feel alone and frozen
Yet there is beauty in the midst of death and emptiness
I find life and warmth
Darkness makes me ache for light
Pain reminds me of the joy I knew
This is not the end

Joy is comforting my broken heart
It’s you, God, that restores and brings new life

Brokenness is the pillow for your head
Why can’t you see the love into His eyes?

She wonders if her life will turn out okay
This night was different
Tonight she missed His voice against her chest
Stars whispered quietly her name
A night of peace
Serenity spoke of such rest
The claws of iron lost their grasp

No longer did she try to run
To fear was no longer her way out
For there’s nowhere-
No place she needs to turn to now
The arms of love are holding on her heart

Memories of First Snow

The earth looked up in waiting
Winter let out its breath of cold-
Now everything was asleep
In deep silence,
Night opened it’s wings-
Covering our universe with peace
A moon of silver hid behind the clouds-
Celestial stars were dancing quietly;
Their hands united in a still embrace
All that has life looked up with eyes of wonder,
Earth slowly raised its hands towards the sky-
Waiting was over
Pure adoration written on nature’s heart;
Its heartbeat vibrated the heaven
A song of hope awakened the immortal-
Angels bowed their heads and closed their eyes
Crystal tears touched their cheeks;
And fell
The wind carried them softly,
Sculpting them as one by one they left its hands
Each tear becoming a beautiful snow flake-
With heaven’s imprint of its breast,
Yet not one was a reflection of the other-
Uniqueness clothed them
The first frozen tear kissed our earth with gentle lips,
And as the earth and heaven met-
Creation trembled, forever changed;
God’s love painted an image of purity-
Something humans lost so long ago
Our mortal eyes can now awaken once again
To gaze upon the eternal-
So perfect and untouched,
But the ethereal whisper of life
Will fade too soon.
