A fragrant offering.

Will your life bring God the highest of praise?

Throughout history, there have been few who truly lived lives worthy of the calling they have received. These few were not afraid to stand alone or to be ridiculed because they didn’t fit the mold of the world around them. They did not rely on their own strength in order to live out the plan that God designed for their lives. They stood firm in their faith despite countless trials and hardships. They believed for the impossible. They left a mark on our history that will never be forgotten even though many of them served in obscurity. They did not seek their own glory but the glory of the only One who is worthy- Jesus Christ. They were men and women of character, possessing qualities that modern Christians shy away from and even find repulsive. However, character takes time to develop; despite the common misconception that character is something that we can attain overnight- in our own strength. God alone can form a noble character inside the heart that is completely surrendered to Him. True Christianity requires absolute abandon- a truth that has been long forgotten by the Church. Abandoning yourself completely to God means no longer living for your own dreams, desires, and ambitions; it means yielding to God’s glorious plan and purpose for your life. The life God calls us to can only be lived by His strength as He lives in and through us. Yet, God cannot live through us if we don’t allow Him to have complete control over every area of our lives. Being a real Christian is not about going to church to hear a “nice” sermon on Sundays and then living unchanged by the Word of God for the rest of the week. Being a real Christian is about encountering God every day of our lives and giving up everything in order to spend time with Him. It’s about being in love with God and lifting our hands in worship to Him when no one is around but us and God. There are few people who get to know God in a really intimate way. The ones that do are able to rejoice in the midst of trials because they overflow with the joy of the Holy Spirit, a joy that is not dependent on the ever-changing circumstances of life. They know that they can become more like Christ if they persevere in faith, allowing the fire to burn away all the chaff in their lives and to refine their character. I can’t help but get so inspired by the story of Betsie ten Boom! Her and her sister Corrie were arrested and sent to a concentration camp for concealing Jews in their home during the Nazi occupation of Holland. Betsie grew weaker and weaker while being imprisoned at the concentration camp and before her death, she told Corrie, “…[we] must tell them what we have learned here. We must tell them that there is no pit so deep that He is not deeper still. They will listen to us, Corrie, because we have been here.” Hebrews 11:33-38 (ESV) is filled with examples of people such as Betsie ten Boom, “who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated— of whom the world was not worthy— wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.” Leslie Ludy, an example of a real woman of faith in our generation wrote in her book, AUTHENTIC BEAUTY, “Today, there are few examples of [men and] women who put their own trials and struggles aside to sincerely worship their [God], no matter what their circumstances. It is all too easy to become consumed with our own pain, doubts, and fears and forget that our heroic Lord is standing beside us, holding our hands, faithfully weaving all things together for His amazing purpose (see Romans 8:28). Too often we forget to adore Him, to thank Him for His incredible love and faithfulness to us. But in every generation there are a few who make another choice—a choice to shamelessly, tenderly, reverently adore their [God], no matter what they are going through. And they are filled with a matchless radiance that is not of this world. Are you willing to be one of the few?” The world will never be the same if you do.

It’s time for change.

Waiting for spring.

The trees are still bare, colorful birds are returning, and the sun is making its way out of the iron clouds. It’s March. If you live in a warmer climate, then your experience is probably a little different than mine. Nevertheless, everything speaks of change. Something is about to unfold. I dream of spring. The time when everything that has life is renewed, nature starts to sing a song of new beginning, and the smell of trees in blossom fills the air. I’ve always loved spring. Ever since I was a little girl, spring has fascinated me. Yes, my heart was younger and more naïve then; but I’ve always loved the feeling spring brought into my soul. It brought the hope of something new, something good. Today, I find myself looking at life through the same pair of innocent eyes. I can see God’s hand preparing nature for spring. God is also renewing my heart. He is bringing life, color, and warmth in the deepest corners of my being. Corners long forgotten that have been waiting for His loving embrace. Look around you, nature is waiting on the God of life to make everything new again. I think every season has a unique and deep significance. God made seasons for a purpose; each one tells us a different story. Spring is a time of new life, new beginning, and a new chance. A time of hope. I can’t wait to watch God dress the trees in beautiful greens and warm pinks. Blossoming is on its way! I can already hear birds singing! I can feel the heart of God dancing with joy as He prepares to paint our universe with color and life. We have such a beautiful, creative, and wonderful God! A God that is so often misunderstood and unnoticed. A God of life and love. A good and merciful God! None of us deserve His grace, yet in His faithfulness He still renews our universe every year. Please be aware of His love for you as we step into spring! Nature in spring speaks of a God that wants to renew your life! God wants to bring fresh hope inside your heart. Let’s not miss the beauty of it all as it unfolds right before our eyes. Let God awaken your heart to the wonder of who He is. He is a God worthy of glory and admiration!!! Just trust Him, He will bring spring into your heart as well. Don’t miss your chance for change! Have faith in God’s power to give you a new life. Let Him take your breath away. He loves to do that! An open heart is all it takes. Let God renew you!

New year, old you?

Trust in God’s plan for you this year.

Think of all the new years you’ve had in your life. Years seem to come to an end so fast. One year ends, another one begins, and we find ourselves getting caught up in this cycle. For some people, making resolutions for the new year is a good enough way to start off right. For others, the new year is new only for its first day and after that, everything goes back to normal. I don’t know what kind of person you are, but I’m the type of person who likes to make resolutions, but tends to forget them too easily. So, I assume I’m an odd combination of the two. There’s something about the routine of our lives that seems to steal our excitement and pushes us back into what we call, well, “just life.” The way we’ve always known our existence, watching our days fly by and our years vanish in the wind. We’re only left with our memories. Echoes of what we used to know. Well, this year, I plan on getting closer to God. I plan on knowing Him in new and beautiful ways. I plan on living in confidence, fully trusting God’s plan for my life. I plan on thinking of this year as “new” every day of it because I know my God’s love for me is new every morning. I won’t let the things of my past steal the joy of my present and destroy the hope of my future. When I say past, I’m not just talking about last year or many years ago. Yesterday is part of the past. This morning has “past” written all over it. A second ago, my past was unfolding. If it’s not happening right now or it hasn’t happened yet; then it’s part of the past. That’s where I want to leave it. Today, I’m going to live out what I planned; basking in the light of God’s presence upon my life. Today is the day to begin walking with God! I can just imagine the amazing things God has in store for me this year. Tomorrow will be a new and glorious day! I know every day of this year has God’s imprint on it. That, to me, is enough. I’m trusting in God’s love and faithfulness with all of my heart. I will seek His presence through prayer. Read His Word. Surrender my heart to His will. This year will bring answers to my prayers, light in the places of my life that are in need of warmth and clarity; it will bring beauty, freedom, and happiness. Isn’t happiness the one thing everyone is searching for? Believe in God’s plan for you this year! True happiness can only be found in God. I wonder what God is up to in your life this year. Let me assure you that He prepared for you moments that will take your breath away. All you have to do is be there to live them. Absorb them. Drink them in. I pray your heart will be full of faith and trust in God this year! Stop trying to live life on your own terms, allow God to take you places you’ve never even dreamed of!  This year, search for Him with all your heart and you will find Him. Did you know He actually desires to come into your life and make everything new? He doesn’t just want to give you a new year, He also wants to give you a new heart. New purpose, new life. What does God ask from you in return? Trust. Choose Him as your guide! A new beginning awaits you.
